What is the Montana Bioscience Cluster Initiative?

Montana Technology Enterprise Center (MonTEC) was the prime contractor for 5 years on a federal contract from the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Montana Bioscience Cluster Initiative (MTBSCI), that worked to grow the bioscience cluster across Montana. MonTEC is a high-growth, technology focused business incubator building a community of high-growth enterprises in Montana by connecting people and linking them with support services to help get their venture on the right track. MonTEC provides important physical space for early stage bioscience firms.

A collaboration between MonTEC, Montana World Trade Center, the University of MontanaSwan Valley Medical, the Montana Bioscience Alliance, and the Missoula Economic Partnership, the Montana Bioscience Cluster Initiative was a multidimensional program with seasoned stakeholders from the private sector, university, economic development, trade associations and others who had boots on the ground providing technical assistance as well as support, training, and mentoring to new and established life science businesses, entrepreneurs and students.

Montana Bioscience Cluster Initiative partners fostered the growth of bioscience in Montana with proven track records of collaborative program design and execution and integrated programs fostering innovation, technology commercialization, entrepreneurship and sustainable small business.

As part of the virtual BIO 2020 proceedings, MWTC Executive Director Brigitta Miranda-Freer recently gave a presentation on Montana’s growing bioscience industry and the Montana Bioscience Cluster Initiative.
